This comment in the article infuriates me. I can provide well-researched papers on how the Common Core Standards will impact teachers. As a Master of Secondary Ed student, I have had to evaluate the standards from an Education standpoint. I 100% believe that we need higher standards, but those should be set by the State with PARENTS AND TEACHERS involved in the process! This should not be about how smart we can make our 8-year-olds look on standardized tests, but how successfully we can educate our students so that they know HOW to LEARN and HOW to THINK! They should be able to reach the standards for themselves if they are taught correctly! This is NOT a political opinion! Individualized education, rather than putting each and every student of an age into one very rigid mold will improve everyone's performance and satisfaction! This article simply tries to paint the opposition as emotional and establish themselves as rational without even addressing the facts or their sources.

Sydnee Dickson, director of teaching and learning for the State Office of Education, said most of the concerns she's heard regarding the standards are based on misinformation. She said much of the furor over Common Core is politically-motivated — stemming from anti-federal sentiment and ignoring the standards themselves — and is perpetuated by blogs instead of factual data.
